8 Secrets to Success!
I really liked this TED talk. The title of it, "8 Secrets for Success" completely caught my attention. As a teenager, I am really scared for my future and even where I am at right now. I always want to know why success comes so easily for some people and not for me. However, after watching this, I learned success is not always easy, but very doable. I really liked the way he addressed these things because they are so simple yet people forget about them from time to time.
The principles that stood out to me the most were to have good focus, which I struggle at, and also to push yourself. When he says to push yourself, he doesn't mean just physically, but also pushing your mental side as well. He talks about overcoming shyness and self doubts, which I think many teenagers have. He was very easy to relate to and straight to the point, which I liked alot.
Doodling is good!
This TED talk completely caught my attention because it is all about doodling and I doodle all the time! The speaker talks about how doodling can actually be helpful and even essential to the way a person learns. She mentioned that when you learn something, you need four senses to learn: Auditory, reading/writing, touch and visual. When you doodle, little do you know, but you are using all four of those senses! This was incredible and really exciting for me to learn.
Have you ever been doodling during a lecture, thinking you are spacing, but afterwards you can recall everything? While most people believe doodling is an idle waste of time, it can actually be more helpful in the way you learn things!
I was really happy to learn about this because whenever I have a paper, pen or even a whiteboard, I will most absolutely be doodling. However, when I doodle, I can say with surety that I retain more than if I don't doodle.

Compassion is not dead
As I scrolled through the different speeches, this TED talk stood out to me the most. One of my favorite things about people is the compassion they can show. Sure, people can be gorgeous and rich and successful, but at the end of the day, I think compassion is honestly one of the biggest building blocks in a person's character.
This last summer, I was able to hear someone talk about their mission trips in India. It was so inspiring to me, and I can completely relate with this speaker because I heard many similar stories. People who are poor or sick are the most amazing people because they know what compassion is and how to be genuinely grateful for it. I personally know many friends and family who have served similar mission trips and not only were they helping the people, the people were helping them. They came back absolutely self less and wanting to change. The change in their attitudes were amazing.
It was cool to me that this lady worked in a prison with people on death row. If it were me, I'd be terrified and probably judge every person as scary or harmful. I like that she listened to them, and learned they were capable of compassion just like anyone else.
I am so touched by everyone who shows compassion. I think in a world where so many bad things happen, so many good things can happen too. I don't mean you have to go to India or some foreign country, but making the effort to be more compassionate makes such a difference. I've noticed it in my life, and many other people's. It makes me think differently about the way I treat people. Have any of you seen/heard of an experience with alot of compassion?
